Role: Shopify Engineer

Location: Canada Remote

Mode: Contract



Role Overview

The Shopify Engineer (E2.1) will work across production support and platform enhancements within Shopify environments. This role requires hands-on development experience along with the ability to troubleshoot, stabilize, and enhance e-commerce solutions. The engineer is expected to take ownership of assigned modules, ensure delivery quality, and support junior team members while adhering to defined operational and SLA standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and maintain Shopify and Shopify Plus-based e-commerce applications.
• Provide L2/L3 production support, including issue analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of Shopify website functionality issues.
• Customize and extend Shopify themes using Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in alignment with business requirements and e-commerce best practices.
• Integrate and maintain Shopify apps, third-party services, and APIs (Admin API, Storefront API).
• Participate in deployment, release, and environment management activities, ensuring smooth production rollouts.
• Follow defined support and operational processes, including ticket handling, root cause analysis, and SLA compliance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, QA, business stakeholders) to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and functional mentoring to junior team members and new joiners.
• Actively contribute to code quality, reusable components, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with Shopify Plus, including in-depth knowledge of Shopify Admin features and configurations.
• Proficiency in Liquid templating, along with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Proven experience in:

• Shopify theme customization
• App integration
• Shopify Admin APIs, Storefront API, and third-party integrations

• Solid understanding of e-commerce concepts, performance considerations, and best practices for building and scaling online stores.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify and resolve functional and technical issues.
• Working knowledge of version control systems such as GitLab (or similar), including branching and deployment methodologies.
