The Senior Residential Appraiser is responsible for properly discovering, listing, valuing, and defending appealed property values for the residential real property parcels in Sedgwick County. This is accomplished through properly applied mass appraisal techniques in accordance with the State of Kansas Statutes and the Kansas Department of Revenue, Division of Property Valuation (PVD), directives and guidelines, office policies and procedures, and Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practices (USPAP).
Annual appraisal database maintenance.
Annual property appeals.
Final reconciliation of values.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of experience in new construction, real estate, appraisal, appraisal appeals, data management or analysis, or drafting – OR – One year of mass appraisal experience as a field appraiser in a Kansas County Appraiser’s Office. Has successfully completed the following courses: International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) Course 101 Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal, IAAO Course 102 Income Approach to Valuation, Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). Must successfully pass the following courses within three years of hire date: IAAO Course 300 Fundamentals of Mass Appraisal, Kansas Property Tax Law, Orion Introduction and Review of Basic Functionality, Orion Sales File Development. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid U.S. driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Must have a properly registered and licensed passenger vehicle to use on a daily basis
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Real Estate, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. Five years’ experience in mass appraisal. Have one of the following professional designations: Residential Evaluation Specialist (RES), Mass Appraisal Specialist (MAS), Registered Mass Appraiser (RMA), Assessment Administration Specialist (AAS) or Certified Assessment Evaluator (CAE).
