Job Description

Burlington County Department of Corrections are seeking motivated, professional, and dedicated individuals for the position of County Correctional Police Officer. County Correctional Police Officers are responsible for the following: Under supervision, during an assigned tour of duty within an adult county correctional facility or institution, performs a wide variety of tasks in support of the safety, security and welfare of inmates, facility personnel and visitors; performs other related duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be 18 years of age.
  • Must maintain a valid New Jerseys Driver’s license (probationary License not allowed).
  • Must live in New Jersey.
  • Must pass medical and psychological testing.
  • Must pass background investigation.
  • Must pass drug screening.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Naturalized.

Special Qualifications:

Must also be able to successfully complete the following physical assessment prior to attending the police academy:

  • Vertical Jump - 12.5 inches or more.
  • Sit-ups - 22 repetitions in 1 minute.
  • Push-ups - 19 repetitions in 1 minute.
  • 300 meter run - 84 seconds or less.
  • 1.5 mile run - 19 minutes or less.

Candidates must successfully complete a police training course approved by the New Jersey Police Training Commission. (Academy and Uniforms are paid for by the department).
Such training includes successful attainment of a satisfactory level of proficiency in the use of firearms.

Starting salary: $60,159.
Max salary: $100,227.

Eligible for Overtime compensation.
Benefits: Pension, paid vacation, accrued sick time, health & dental.
Eligible for promotional testing after 3 years of service.

Schedule & Work Hours:

  • This is an essential position that requires availability for alternating weekends and holidays as scheduled.
  • Officers work a 12-hour Pitman Schedule , which provides a balanced and predictable rotation.

Key Benefits of a Pitman Schedule:

  • Every other weekend is a 3-day weekend off.
  • No more than 3 consecutive workdays.
  • Only 7 workdays in a 14-day period.


This schedule offers extended time off and promotes a healthy work-life balance while maintaining consistent staffing and operational readiness.
