In this position you will plan, implement, administer, and counsel units and their leadership on individual, family, and community issues including but not limited to career assistance, transition, relocation, family, and other work/life service and activities provided to military members, retirees, Department of Defense civilian members, and their families. Additionally, may be required to serve in emergency and/or natural and man-made disasters.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the
Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the
GS-0101, Social Science Series. Basic Requirement Or Individual Occupational Requirement - Bachelor's degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
- Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
- Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Examples of specialized experience include: Detailed knowledge of and experience in applying a wide range of concepts, principles and theories relating to one or more of the social behavioral science fields and of social services delivery systems to analyze and interpret complete social and behavioral data concerning the client; and to assess factors of personality structure and dynamics as they affect findings of aptitudes and interests.

- Obtain & maintain a Security clearance
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical
- The employee may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty
- This position is emergency-essential (E-E). The incumbent of this position must meet all requirements of E-E positions and may be required as a condition of employment to take a series of vaccinations and annual boosters to immunize against anthrax and other diseases. During a crisis the incumbent or designated alternate must continue to perform the E-E duties until relieved by proper authority. The incumbent or the designated alternate may be required to take part in readiness exercises. This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to designated alternate be removed from any recall status.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Work may require CONUS or OCONUS travel away from normal duty station.
- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. A valid driver’s license is required for the position.
Recruitment Knowledge Skills And Abilities - Knowledge of social services delivery systems as well as a wide range of concepts, principles, theories, and practices relating to one or more of the social or behavioral science fields.
- Skill in conducting interviews to establish the nature and extent of concerns/issues, provide assistance in developing goals and plans, and determine appropriate referral services/options when frequently there is difficulty in determining clients’ needs or wants or in convincing them to accept that problems exist.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships using tact and diplomacy in interactions with individuals/families, leadership of organizations, and with program representatives and officials.
- Ability to assess and measure organizations’ trends, concerns, and needs; assist in identifying and prioritizing goals; and provide guidance and direction for the development and implementation of effective plans and tools to address such issues.
