Job Summary:

The Montana State Hospital Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides essential support to residents by assisting with daily living activities, basic hygiene, and health-related tasks in a mental health care setting. The role involves taking and recording vital signs, collecting specimens, assisting in emergencies, and transporting residents to appointments. Strong communication, observation, and reporting skills are vital, along with the ability to work cooperatively within a team. Candidates must have relevant experience in psychiatric, geriatric, or emergency care environments and be highly skilled in de-escalation techniques.

Responsibilities:

• Assist residents with basic hygiene including bathing, oral hygiene, and dressing.
• Perform health-related tasks such as taking and recording vital signs and collecting specimens.
• Provide support during emergency situations as needed.
• Transport residents to appointments and assist as required.
• Communicate information clearly and follow instructions accurately.
• Make accurate observations and report or record findings appropriately.
• Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with team members.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Valid Montana Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a psychiatric facility or related healthcare setting.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Basic knowledge of personal hygiene and patient care.
• Ability to make accurate observations and record information.
• At least 1 year of travel contract experience.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification.
• Experience in geriatric care, hospice, or emergency/urgent care settings.
• Proven skills in de-escalation techniques.
• Flexible with facility scheduling and holiday shifts.

Special Considerations:

• Must be able to work in a mental health facility environment.
• Required to follow strict communication and safety protocols.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts and holidays as assigned.
• Travel experience preferred due to assignment nature.

Scheduling:

• Shift example: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
• Shift assignments may vary based on facility needs.
• Open shift availability and float pool participation preferred.
• Candidate must be flexible with scheduling including holidays.
