Job Summary:

The Montana State Hospital Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides essential support to residents by assisting with daily living activities, basic hygiene, vital sign monitoring, specimen collection, and emergency assistance. This role requires effective communication, accurate observation and reporting, and the ability to work cooperatively within a healthcare team, primarily in a mental health facility setting.

Responsibilities:

• Assist residents with basic hygiene including bathing, oral care, and dressing.
• Take and record vital signs and collect specimens as required.
• Provide support during emergency situations as needed.
• Transport residents to appointments and assist during transit.
• Communicate observations and follow instructions accurately.
• Maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with team members.
• Support residents in daily living activities to promote comfort and well-being.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Valid Montana Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification.
• Minimum of two years of experience working in a psychiatric facility or related healthcare setting.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
• Ability to make accurate observations and report findings.
• Two years of relevant job-related experience in healthcare or group home environments.
• One year of travel contract experience.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification.
• Experience in mental health facilities or adult psychiatric care.
• Experience with de-escalation techniques and behavioral health interventions.

Special Considerations:

• Must be flexible with facility scheduling including holiday work.
• Ability to work in a mental health hospital environment with adult psychiatric patients.
• Travel experience of 1-2 years preferred.
• Must comply with facility policies including prescreening and submission of required documentation such as skills checklist, state certification, BLS, CPI, and driver's license.

Scheduling:

• Shift: 3 PM to 11 PM.
• Open shift availability and float pool experience preferred.
• Flexible scheduling required, including the ability to work holidays and variable shifts as assigned by the facility.
